4,250 planned homes for a new Leicestershire community
Developers are looking to build the next 163 homes of the 4,250 planned for a new Leicestershire community. The New Lubbesthorpe development, near Thorpe Astley, in Blaby District, is currently under construction with 861 homes occupied at the start of the year.
Davidsons Homes and Barratt Homes are now seeking full permission from Blaby District Council to start the next round of home building as outline planning permission for the homes is already in place.
Includes 51 three-bed, 26 four-bed & 15 five-bed houses
The new homes will include 10 one-bed apartments, 47 two-bed houses, 14 two-bed bungalows and 51 three-bed, 26 four-bed and 15 five-bed houses. Some 33 of these would be classed as “affordable”.
The homes would sit between Laxford Lane and a newly extended Dee Way. New Lubbesthorpe is expected to be completed next decade and will have two primary schools, a secondary school, two local centres with shops and leisure and community facilities, a health centre, offices, parks and playing fields.
Shops, including a convenience store, and cafes
Developer Charterpoint Ltd is waiting for the green light to start building one of the new local centres off Tay Road, to the west of the community’s new primary school. Shops, including convenience stores, and cafes or restaurants could make their home on the ground floor. The second floor would play host to the community’s new medical centre.
There would be six GP rooms, five consultation rooms and four nursing rooms. If the medical centre does not expand across the entire floor, the remaining space could be offered out as business space.
Forest House Medical Centre, which currently serves Braunstone Town, is expected to move into the building, leaving its Park Drive premises behind. The move has sparked an outcry from Braunstone residents, who “ are horrified at the prospect of losing their doctors’ surgery”.
However, the GP has said facilities at the current site are limited. They feel they are unable to provide the range of care and services some of our patients need.
New care home with 66 bedrooms
A second building on the site would be built as a care home, the plan shows. The three-storey residence would have 66 bedrooms split over the bottom two floors. The top floor would house staff facilities, a kitchen and a laundry.
