The school is being constructed to provide places for children who will be moving into a new housing development in the town which contains 895 homes, Leicestershire Live reports.

It will have a football pitch, soft social area, playground, hard games court and a habitat area.

Work, which was scheduled to begin in June 2020, but was delayed due to Covid-19, is expected to be completed in July 2022.

Construction firms Miller Homes, Redrow PLC and Clowes Developments UK were charged with funding the new school by Leicestershire County Council when planning permission was granted for the new homes, amid fears that existing schools would not be able to cope with the extra pupils from the estate.

National contractor, Seddon, will build the new school in Welston Road.

The site will also be lined with trees and a high fence in a bid to make sure the new building blends into the landscape.

James Corden, head of commercial at Redrow East Midlands, said: “Here at Redrow, we strive to build more than just houses – we want to create a better way to live.

Building schools is key if we are to create thriving communities.

Stuart Fanshaw, business unit director at Seddon, said: “Building schools is key if we are to create thriving communities.

“With new family homes in the area, there is naturally a demand for more school places and this project has meant we can provide high-quality education right in the heart of the community.

How do SAP Calculations consider the building's form factor?
How do SAP Calculations consider the building’s form factor?

SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) calculations, mandated under Part L of the UK Building Regulations, do not directly quantify a building’s form factor but inherently consider its influence through various elements. These calculations rely heavily on the thermal elements, such as walls, floors, and roofs, assessing their U-values to determine energy efficiency, while also involving detailed modeling of the building’s volume and envelope area, which subtly accounts for its form. Factors like thermal bridging at junctions, the orientation and proportion of glazing, and the building’s airtightness further reflect the impact of design and layout on energy performance. Thus, SAP calculations ensure that a building’s form and design adhere to energy efficiency standards by evaluating its overall thermal performance, heating demand, and emission levels.

Navigating Acoustic Regulations for Change of Use Projects

Change of Use Projects involve transforming existing buildings or spaces for new purposes, such as converting offices to residential flats or warehouses to retail stores. Understanding and complying with acoustic regulations is crucial for creating a comfortable environment and avoiding disturbances. You need to be aware of local regulatory requirements, conduct initial acoustic assessments, and plan your design to incorporate soundproofing measures. During construction, ensure contractors follow guidelines, and carry out compliance testing post-construction. Seeking expert advice from specialised consultants like Ratio Seven can guide you through this complex process, balancing compliance, cost, and aesthetics.

Water Underfloor Heating
Does MVHR Work With Underfloor Heating?

When you’re building a new home, you might wonder if MVHR is compatible with underfloor heating. Unlike conventional heating systems, MVHR is a ventilation system, not a heating one. MVHR is not suitable for flat channel ducts. The system should be around 2% of your build budget. It provides better indoor air quality and reduces heat loss. Not only does it help you meet building control regulations, but it can also boost your SAP score, which will allow you to build with less cost. If you’ve opted for MVHR, you may be able to skip installing expensive insulation and windows.
