The school is being constructed to provide places for children who will be moving into a new housing development in the town which contains 895 homes, Leicestershire Live reports.

It will have a football pitch, soft social area, playground, hard games court and a habitat area.

Work, which was scheduled to begin in June 2020, but was delayed due to Covid-19, is expected to be completed in July 2022.

Construction firms Miller Homes, Redrow PLC and Clowes Developments UK were charged with funding the new school by Leicestershire County Council when planning permission was granted for the new homes, amid fears that existing schools would not be able to cope with the extra pupils from the estate.

National contractor, Seddon, will build the new school in Welston Road.

The site will also be lined with trees and a high fence in a bid to make sure the new building blends into the landscape.

James Corden, head of commercial at Redrow East Midlands, said: “Here at Redrow, we strive to build more than just houses – we want to create a better way to live.

Delighted to be supporting the creation of the brand-new primary school in Castle Donington.

“A sense of community is a vital part of choosing your new home, and we’re committed to investing in the local facilities that surround our developments, which is why we’re delighted to be supporting the creation of the brand-new primary school in Castle Donington.

“We expect the development to popular with a lot of families and look forward to supporting the next generation of local children.”

Building schools is key if we are to create thriving communities.

Stuart Fanshaw, business unit director at Seddon, said: “Building schools is key if we are to create thriving communities.

“With new family homes in the area, there is naturally a demand for more school places and this project has meant we can provide high-quality education right in the heart of the community.

The Role of Airtightness in Creating Comfortable Living Spaces

Airtightness is essential for fostering comfortable and energy-efficient living spaces, as it minimises air leakage through the building envelope, thereby significantly reducing energy loss and operational carbon emissions. This not only lowers heating and cooling demands but also enhances indoor air quality by allowing for controlled ventilation, which keeps allergens and pollutants at bay. Additionally, eliminating drafts and cold spots through airtight construction improves thermal comfort and ensures a consistent indoor environment. Employing specific construction techniques and rigorous airtightness testing, as Ratio Seven, underscores the importance of achieving optimal airtightness to create healthier and more sustainable living spaces.

What's the relationship between SAP Calculations and air tightness testing?
What’s the relationship between SAP Calculations and air tightness testing?

The relationship between SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) calculations and air tightness testing is vital for ensuring that buildings in the UK adhere to energy efficiency standards set by government regulations. SAP calculations evaluate various aspects of a dwelling’s energy profile, including insulation, heating, and ventilation, while air tightness testing specifically measures the uncontrolled airflow through the building’s fabric, which can lead to heat loss and increased energy consumption. Meeting design air permeability targets, often below 10 m³/hr/m², is crucial for achieving compliance with Part L of the building regulations, which require air tightness testing as a mandatory measure. Ultimately, ensuring proper air tightness directly enhances the dwelling’s energy efficiency, reduces carbon emissions, and improves the building’s EPC rating, thus supporting both environmental objectives and regulatory compliance.
