90 homes in a village on the Leicestershire and Warwickshire border

Build work for 90 homes in a village on the Leicestershire and Warwickshire border is now underway. The residential development, called Kingmakers View, will see a range of two, three and four-bedroom properties built as well as a children’s play area.

Transport links to Leicester, Nuneaton and Coventry

Residents of the scheme, in Wolvey, near Hinckley, will benefit from transport links to Leicester, Nuneaton and Coventry. The former industrial site is set for 18 affordable homes, 40 that will be sold on the open market and 32 available for private rental.

The developers, Countryside and partner Sigma, will be contributing over £145,000 towards education and libraries, local healthcare, road safety and public open spaces. This also includes improvements to the Wolvey Rush Pasture Nature Wetland Reserve.

Phil McHugh, managing director, West Midlands, Countryside told CoventryLive: “We are excited to start work with Sigma, transforming this former industrial land into much needed new homes and providing the local community with a host of social and environmental benefits to improve quality of life for everyone in this attractive and well-connected part of the Midlands.”

A breakdown of the contributions, which will benefit the local community, are listed out below:

  • Education and libraries – £2,462
  • Healthcare – £45,568
  • Transport – £22,974 (including road safety, sustainable travel and public rights of way improvements)
  • Public open spaces and sports provision – £74,365

The developer has also promised biodiversity improvements, offsetting any losses elsewhere – and will be provided on-site rather than as a contribution.
