Uncontrolled airflow is responsible for the leakage of air in the property. As opposed to traditional ventilation methods which involve draughts from cracks and gaps in the building fabric.

Air Tightness Testing in Merseyside

A building’s fabric can be compromised by cracks, gaps, or holes that allow air to leak into it. Sometimes, these things aren’t immediately apparent. Consequently, this impacts the building’s energy efficiency.

The heat is allowed to escape, which will increase energy bills and produce CO2 (Carbon Monoxide). As a result, the occupants of the property are uncomfortable due to the loss of heat.

Air leakage per hour can be determined by the airtightness test. The calculation is based on the external area of the entire building measured in square metres.

The anemometer can then be used to determine the internal and external pressures. To compensate for the differences in air pressure within a property, this is the maximum power that the fan must reach.

In accordance with iAts ( The Independent Airtightness Testing Scheme ), the airtightness testing process is conducted according to strict guidelines.

To ensure that the most appropriate time and day are selected to arrive at your site, we will coordinate with you beforehand. We will also confirm with you the number of dwellings that will be tested. A fan, or many fans, will be provided by the engineer.

While the testing is underway, it will be necessary to seal off the dwelling. Generally, the front door is a suitable location to attach the fan.

This will allow all doors inside the property to remain open, allowing the entire building to be pressurised.

The presence of any air leak will become apparent once the building is depressurised.

Our Air Pressure Testing Service

Several other readings are taken as well. Among those factors will be temperature and barometric pressure. The air leakage can then be calculated.

We measure the square footage of the building envelope and the loss of air in metres per hour to get the overall reading. Walls, floors, and roofs are included.

For each dwelling being tested, the whole air tightness testing process should take around an hour. Detailed reports and certificates will accompany the results.
