How We Carry Out An Airtightness Test

Air tightness testing is a fundamental element in making your building as energy efficient as possible, helping you save money on utility bills and keep out cold draughts.

To conduct an airtightness test, all exterior envelope and openings are temporarily shut and passive ventilation is sealed to prevent air from escaping. After this is completed, blower door testing equipment is installed at one external opening – this pressurises the building and tests over pressure differences, allowing us to identify any areas needing remediation.

Once the fan is turned on, we will run it for a period of time to take measurements such as temperature and barometric pressure. This information will enable us to calculate air leakage and obtain an accurate target rating.
